Uncommitted

About the Film

Uncommitted follows Arab and Muslim American organizers who led a groundbreaking protest vote in the 2024 Democratic primaries, demanding a ceasefire in Gaza. With over 100,000 “uncommitted” votes in Michigan alone, the movement sparked national attention, shook the Democratic Party, and brought Palestine into mainstream political discourse. But when Kamala Harris lost the general election, activists were scapegoated for the defeat. Through vérité footage and intimate interviews, the film captures their resilience in the face of grief, threats, and blame—and their effort to build lasting power in a country that often excludes them.

Gaza & the 2024 Election

In early 2025, reporting by Axios, Common Dreams, and Truthout revealed that the Democratic National Committee’s internal post-election review concluded the Biden-Harris administration’s stance on Israel’s war in Gaza was a “net negative” politically, particularly among younger and progressive voters.

The IMEU Policy Project, which reviewed portions of the findings, urged the DNC to release the full report, arguing that Gaza policy had measurable electoral consequences.

At the same time, a widely circulated Current Affairs analysis of Kamala Harris’s post-campaign memoir argued that her reflections revealed a deeper strategic blind spot: a failure to recognize how profoundly Gaza had reshaped voter priorities. The critique suggested that the campaign underestimated the moral urgency many voters, especially young voters, attached to the issue.

Together, internal party analysis and outside commentary point to a broader conclusion: Gaza was not peripheral in 2024, it became a flashpoint inside the Democratic coalition.
